Programmer's Pick

If your taste for horror leans toward hypnotists with dark pasts, ritualistic sex, and plenty of vintage sleaze, Lucifer's Women is a pulpy blend of Satanic cult theatrics and exploitation cinema. Where else do reincarnation theories, sex magick, and nightclub illusions share the same lurid stage?

Overview

In 1954 San Francisco, Dr. John Wainright, once an academic and now an illusionist, gains notoriety by publishing a book on reincarnation, claiming to be the modern embodiment of the infamous mesmerist Svengali. When his publisher Sir Stephen privately reveals himself as the leader of a sinister occult society, John is lured into the Society of the Bleeding Rose and their dark mission: to perform a ritual of human sacrifice and psychic transference. The procedure’s essential ingredient is death at the peak of pleasure, raising the stakes for John as he is tasked with selecting and ensnaring the perfect victim. Eroticism and black magic swirl around a plot that tangles sex, manipulation, and supernatural danger in classic 1970s exploitation style.
