Quick Answer

What is Return to Horror High about?

Return to Horror High is a 1987 American comedy-horror film directed by Bill Froehlich about a film crew making a movie at a high school where unsolved murders once took place, only to face new killings during the shoot.

Programmer's Pick

Return to Horror High gleefully skewers the slasher genre by turning its own production into a deadly set piece, complete with a movie-within-a-movie and a cast that includes a pre-fame George Clooney. If you like your scares with a wink and your blood with a punchline, this is your kind of detention.

Overview

Several years after a series of gruesome murders at Crippen High School left the town of Crippen shaken and the killer uncaught, a film crew led by a cut-rate producer descends on the abandoned school to shoot a low-budget movie about the crimes. The production is anything but smooth: the cast and crew, including lead actress Callie Cassidy, are forced to live and work on location to stretch their shoestring budget. As the cameras roll, a new wave of disappearances and murders disrupts the shoot, prompting police investigation and sending paranoia through the ranks. With its blend of slasher violence, satirical edge, and a movie-within-a-movie twist, this film delivers both horror and dark humor in a self-aware, campy package.
