Programmer's Pick

Grotesque is what happens when you mix punk rockers, a special effects wizard, and a secluded mountain cabin—then stir in a mutant surprise. Linda Blair and Tab Hunter headline a B-movie cocktail that’s as much bonkers camp as it is slasher mayhem.

Overview

Grotesque opens with a jolt—a woman offers herself to a deformed man, only for the scene to be revealed as a film-within-the-film, the handiwork of special effects artist Orville Kruger. Orville, played by Guy Stockwell, retreats to his family’s mountain cabin in the San Bernardino Mountains after finishing his latest project. His daughter Lisa (Linda Blair) invites her friend Kathy (Donna Wilkes) for a weekend getaway to recover from a breakup. The peaceful escape quickly turns tense as a punk gang, fresh off a string of violent robberies, plots a home invasion targeting the rumored treasures within the Kruger house. But the Kruger family’s secrets go far beyond what the gang is prepared to handle. Expect a backwoods slasher with a flair for special effects and a taste for the grotesque.
