A recently engaged man (Roberts) comes to visit his fiancée (Lane)'s future father-in-law (Scott) and gets to know him better, when he unearths clues that the man may have been a Nazi collaborator and mass murderer.

When Michael Rossi (Eric Roberts) gets engaged to a Romanian-American woman, Irina Stroia (Diane Lane), he is anticipating a wonderful future. However, as he becomes acquainted with her father, Florian (George C. Scott), his anticipation turns to concern, and he begins to suspect that the man is a former Nazi involved in war atrocities. Even though Irina seems blind to these concerns, Rossi begins to delve into Florian's past. His research quickly puts him in a dangerous situation.
