Programmer's Pick

Larry Buchanan serves up a backwoods monster movie where being stranded means more than just running out of gas. With a cave-dwelling prehistoric creature and a mad redneck farmer, it's a prime example of TV schlock with a mean streak.

Overview

Newlyweds Norman and Leela Sterns set out on a cross-country drive from New York to Los Angeles, only to wind up lost and out of gas in the remote Ozark mountains. Their luck seems to turn when a local paleontologist, Wayne Thomas, offers assistance and points them to a nearby farm for help. But the farm’s proprietor, Greely, is a peculiar character with an unsettling manner and peculiar questions about their isolation. As the couple is invited into Greely’s home and introduced to his odd collection of animals, the atmosphere grows tense. Isolated and with their car disabled, the travelers quickly sense that the rural hospitality might be hiding something far more sinister.
