Camp Bottomout for boys is across the lake and a telescope away from Camp Bountiful for girls, can they save the summer camp from becoming a shopping mall?

Quick Answer

What is Oddballs about?

Oddballs is a 1984 Canadian comedy film directed by Miklós Lente about a grouchy camp owner and his daughter trying to save their summer camp from being bought out and turned into a shopping mall.

Programmer's Pick

Oddballs is Canuxploitation at its most unbuttoned: a slapstick barrage where fake mustaches, Groucho spoofs, and martial arts send-ups collide at a lakeside summer camp. If your idea of a good time includes preppy pranksters, explosive sight gags, and a grumpy hero who might just find his heart (or lose his camp), this one’s got your number.

Overview

At Camp Bottomout, a curmudgeon named Hardy Basset finds himself in charge after a fateful poker game, relying on his daughter Jennifer to keep the summer camp afloat. The camp splits boys and girls across the lake, but that hardly stops adolescent hijinks as the boys plot to spy on their female counterparts. Meanwhile, the neighboring Camp Bountiful’s owner, J. Frothingham Skinner, has his eyes set on buying out Hardy’s camp and replacing it with a shopping mall. Packed with goofy characters, slapstick gags, and over-the-top comedic antics, Oddballs revels in absurd humor and campy chaos as its offbeat cast battles to keep their beloved summer tradition alive.
