Night Shadow is a 1989 American horror film directed by Randolph Cohlan about a TV journalist who returns to her hometown, only to find it terrorized by brutal murders linked to a monstrous killer.

Programmer's Pick

If your idea of vacation involves decapitations, mutilations, and a werewolf in a crop top, Night Shadow delivers the goods. This is pure psychotronic Americana—where small-town nostalgia gets shredded by supernatural carnage and the local news is anything but slow.

Overview

Night Shadow leans hard into creature-feature territory as Alex, a rising television reporter, retreats to her small hometown of Danford for a much-needed break. But tranquility swiftly evaporates: the town’s police are deadlocked on an outbreak of gruesome murders, each more savage than the last. The community’s initial panic gives way to terror as suspicions mount that the killer isn’t entirely human. As Alex tries to settle back into familiar surroundings, she soon finds herself caught between a bewildered sheriff, frightened townsfolk, and a stranger from her Los Angeles past whose arrival coincides with the bloodshed. The film mixes independent horror with camp and martial arts flavor, all set against a backdrop of low-budget shocks.
