Southern sleaze, biker menace, and small-town hysteria collide in this hixploitation powder keg.
SHANTY TRAMP
A sleazy evangelist makes a play for a small town's local tramp, but is shocked to learn that she prefers a local black kid over him. Furious, he stirs up the town against the couple.
Shanty Tramp is a 1967 American crime drama thriller directed by Joseph G. Prieto about a sharecropper's daughter whose encounters with a revival preacher, a biker gang leader, and a black youth spark violence and chaos in a southern town.
Synopsis
A black youth saves her from the motorcyclist, and her father accuses the youth of raping his daughter. The sheriff's posse sets out to find him; he steals a car from a moonshiner in an attempt to escape and dies in a crash. The father and daughter argue, and the daughter stabs her father to death. Afterwards, she goes to the preacher and asks him to take her with him to the next town.
Why Cult
The film wallows in the swampier side of southern small-town life, packed with sharecroppers, moonshiners, and mob justice.
A menacing motorcycle gang leader brings a jolt of mid-century outlaw energy and violence to the rural setting.
Racial tensions, predatory preachers, and explosive confrontations drive a story that pulls no punches in its depiction of bigotry and lust.
