Programmer's Pick

If you thought your last Airbnb was weird, try surviving a semester teaching Klaus. Nikias Chryssos delivers a claustrophobic swirl of dark laughs, awkward lessons, and psychological games—all set in a bunker that’s more Berlin Wall than rustic retreat.

Overview

A nameless student checks in for what he hopes will be a peaceful retreat at a lake-side home, only to discover his lodging is an underground bunker inhabited by an oddly intense family. His hosts, a peculiar mother and father, enlist him as the private tutor for their son Klaus—an adult-sized 'eight-year-old' destined, they claim, for the presidency of the United States, despite his German birth. The lines between reality and delusion blur as the student contends with Klaus’s strange lessons, the parents’ bizarre beliefs (including an alien residing in the mother’s leg), and a steady diet of awkward requests. The Bunker balances psychological drama with absurd humor, serving up an unsettling, surreal examination of family, education, and the claustrophobia of isolation.
