Programmer's Pick

Black Emanuelle 2 trades sun-drenched escapism for a chilly clinic and a swirl of unreliable memories. Come for the softcore glamour, stay for the tangled therapy sessions and a parade of clashing flashbacks. It's Euro-sleaze with a psychological edge.

Overview

International cover girl Emanuelle Richmond Morgan finds herself in a Manhattan clinic suffering from memory loss. Under the watchful eye of Dr. Paul, a Freudian physician whose own marriage frays due to his focus on Emanuelle, she is prompted to record her memories on tape. As Dr. Paul interviews various figures from her life—including a photographer, her estranged husband, and her father—their accounts of the past clash sharply with Emanuelle's own fragmented recollections. Through flashbacks, both sides of each story play out, while Emanuelle's memory gradually begins to return, especially as she forms a bond with another patient, Sharon. The film weaves psychological mystery with sensual overtones, probing not only what Emanuelle has forgotten, but whether anyone else is telling the truth.
