John Meillon

1934 – 1989 · Mosman, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia · Active 1954–2025

John Meillon, born in 1934 in Mosman, Sydney, made a significant impact in Australian cinema with his role in Inn of the Damned (1975). Known for his rich baritone and compelling performances, Meillon's career began at a young age, leading him to join the Shakespeare Touring Company. His work in Inn of the Damned reflects the gritty, atmospheric storytelling characteristic of 1970s exploitation cinema, where he brings a distinct presence to the film's chilling narrative. Meillon's versatility as an actor is evident as he navigates the film's dark themes.

Inn of the Damned

1975 ★ 2.6
as George Parr

A sheriff investigates why the guests at a local hostelry check in, but never check out.  A most unusual Australian low-budget movie that is deceptively simple in appearance. Terry Bourke, to whom the Australian film industry owes a huge debt, directs his actors with a deft touch. The multi-talented Bourke is also responsible for the insightful, often witty script. The much-loved John Meillon puts in an eye catching performance and it is a pity he isn't used in more scenes. Highly recommended.
