Rex Lease, born in 1903, made his mark in Hollywood starting in 1924, transitioning from silent films to talkies with ease. Known for his roles in Calling Dr. Death (1943) and California (1947), he navigated genres from melodrama to action, becoming a familiar face in B-movies and westerns. In The Unholy Wife (1957), Lease's performance adds depth to the film's exploration of complex relationships, demonstrating his adaptability and enduring presence in cult cinema.
California
"Wicked" Lily Bishop joins a wagon train to California, led by Michael Fabian and Johnny Trumbo, but news of the Gold Rush scatters the train. When Johnny and Michael finally arrive, Lily is rich from her saloon and storekeeper (former slaver) Pharaoh Coffin is bleeding the miners dry. But worse troubles are ahead: California is inching toward statehood, and certain people want to make it their private empire.
