Programmer's Pick

If you like your slashers with a side of psychological unease and surreal painterly dread, The Slayer delivers. Its blend of island isolation and dream logic makes for a cult horror outing that’s as unnerving as it is visually arresting.

Overview

Kay, an abstract visual artist, has been haunted by disturbing dreams since childhood—visions that range from eerie, desolate locations to horrific deaths at the hands of a supernatural force. As her nightmares intensify, seeping into both her artwork and her waking fears, Kay’s family and friends arrange a vacation on a remote island, hoping the change of scenery will help. Instead, Kay finds herself confronted by the very setting of her dreams, with her sense of reality and safety rapidly unraveling. The film sets a moody, psychological tone, blending slasher horror with surreal dread as Kay’s inner demons threaten to become terrifyingly real.
