Quick Answer

What is Fandango about?

Fandango is a 1970 American Western film directed by John Hayes about a group of gold miners who, after being harassed by outlaws, seek out prostitutes and become entangled in escalating violence at a mountain camp.

Programmer's Pick

Fandango brings the spaghetti Western into the bedroom, trading in gold dust for X-rated dust-ups. John Hayes doesn’t waste time on moralizing—he lets the miners, hookers, and outlaws duke it out in a camp where everyone’s got an itch to scratch and a score to settle.

Overview

Set in the rugged terrain of the Old West, Fandango follows a crew of prospectors as they attempt to establish a gold-mining camp deep in the mountains. Their efforts are soon disrupted by a group of outlaws who sabotage their food supplies, leaving the men desperate and restless. Longing for female company, the camp’s leader and two miners venture to the Fandango Saloon, where connections with the madam lead to a deal involving several prostitutes. As the women are brought back to the camp, tensions mount, and a violent standoff between the miners and the persistent outlaws looms. This is a Western that blends rough-and-tumble action with a dose of sexploitation, centered around the clash between survival, desire, and lawlessness.

Why Cult

Sexploitation Western

This isn’t your granddad’s frontier: Fandango mixes classic Western brawls with saloon sensuality and X-rated escapades.

Feisty Madam

The saloon’s madam is no shrinking violet—her friendship with the miners’ leader and hands-on approach to survival are central to the chaos.

Mountain Mining Camp

The film’s setting trades dusty towns for a remote camp, where gold fever and cabin fever collide in the cold mountain air.

Outlaw Showdown

When outlaws destroy the miners’ supplies, things escalate fast—expect gunfights, double-crosses, and plenty of dirty dealing.
