Quick Answer

What is Pretty Smart about?

Pretty Smart is a 1987 American comedy-drama directed by Dimitri Logothetis about a rebellious teen sent to an elite Greek boarding school, where she clashes with authority and uncovers the headmaster's shady dealings.

Programmer's Pick

Pretty Smart gives the traditional boarding school movie a Mediterranean twist, decked out with sun-drenched scandal and a curriculum that would send any guidance counselor running. Tricia Leigh Fisher’s Zig is the kind of trouble that posh uniforms just can’t contain, and the school’s eccentric rules are matched only by its headmaster’s sleaze factor.

Overview

Sent to the posh Ogilvy Academy in Greece after a brush with the law, Daphne “Zig” Ziegler is determined to make her stay as brief and chaotic as possible. Her straight-laced twin sister Jennifer is along for the ride, but the sisters quickly find themselves on opposite sides of the school’s rigid social divide. The so-called finishing school is less concerned with education and more with upholding outdated and sexist traditions, leaving the students to navigate cliques, bizarre lessons, and a headmaster with questionable motives. As Zig escalates her rebellious antics, she discovers that there’s much more lurking beneath the academy’s polished surface than mere disciplinary rules.
