In a Florida bunker, survivors battle zombies—and their own breaking points.

DAY OF THE DEAD

The darkest day of horror the world has ever known.

1985 · 1h 41m · NR · Horror / Science Fiction / Thriller · IMDB TMDB

Zombies rule the world, except for a small group of scientists and military personnel who reside in an underground bunker in Florida. The scientists are using the undead in gruesome experiments; much to the chagrin of the military. Finally the military finds that their men have been used in the scientists' experiments, and banish the scientists to the caves that house the Living Dead. Unfortunately, the zombies from above ground have made their way into the bunker.

Programmer's Pick

George A. Romero digs deeper than flesh in this third zombie chapter, serving paranoia and power struggles with just as much bite as his undead. If moaning, groaning, and ethically questionable science in a Florida bunker sound like your kind of living hell, consider yourself home.

Overview

Seven years after civilization has been overrun by zombies, a small, uneasy alliance of scientists and soldiers clings to survival beneath the Florida Everglades in a fortified missile bunker. With zombies ruling the surface, the group is split between those desperately searching for a scientific answer and others who resent being used as security detail and test subjects. Dr. Sarah Bowman and her colleagues conduct gruesome experiments on captive undead, hoping for a breakthrough as military control grows more volatile. The film sets up a grim, isolated struggle, mixing body horror with paranoia and a bleak view of humanity under relentless pressure, all before a single zombie even breaches the bunker.
