Programmer's Pick

There’s nothing quite like French splatter horror with a telepathic fetus and a circus backdrop. Baby Blood gleefully fuses body horror with pitch-black comedy, letting Emmanuelle Escourrou’s Yanka run riot across Paris under the control of a bloodthirsty parasite. It’s a grotesque, gonzo ride—bring your own white briefs.

Overview

In Baby Blood, a circus in northern France receives a cheetah from Africa, only for the animal to die mysteriously, its body ruptured from within. The culprit is an ancient, serpent-like parasite that escapes unnoticed and invades the body of Yanka, a young circus performer. Soon, Yanka finds herself squatting in a derelict city building, having fled the abusive circus ringmaster. Unbeknownst to those around her, she is now telepathically linked to the parasite, which exerts a disturbing influence over her actions. As her body undergoes strange changes and her mind struggles for control, Yanka's reality spirals into violence and survival, setting the stage for a grotesque fusion of body horror and splatter comedy.
