Overview

Cross, a seasoned CIA agent and assassin, is preparing to retire but first must train Jean Laurier—code name Scorpio—to replace him. Cross imparts not only the tricks of the trade but also vital lessons about distrust and survival in the espionage world. When the CIA suspects Cross of treason and orders Scorpio to eliminate him, loyalties and motivations blur. Cross preempts his protégé by offering him a large sum of money, and the two return to the U.S., where personal lives and professional obligations collide. As pressure mounts from the Agency, both men must navigate a web of suspicion, manipulation, and shifting allegiances. The result is a tense, globe-trotting thriller rooted in Cold War paranoia and the moral ambiguities of spycraft.
