Quick Answer

What is Trancers about?

Trancers is a 1984 American science fiction action film directed by Charles Band about a retired police trooper from the 23rd century who time-travels to 1980s Los Angeles to stop a criminal mastermind capable of turning people into mindless killers.

Programmer's Pick

Jack Deth may be from the future, but his attitude is strictly vintage hard-boiled—think trench coat meets laser gun. Trancers is a lean, mean slice of time-warped noir, set against a backdrop of punk clubs and psychic mayhem. If you like your cops grizzled and your villains with a side of mind control, this one's for you.

Overview

In a dystopian 23rd-century future, Jack Deth, a gruff retired police trooper, is yanked back into active duty to pursue Martin Whistler, a psychic criminal who can transform ordinary people into vicious, zombie-like "Trancers" under his control. Using a special bracelet to detect these hidden threats, Deth tracks Whistler as he escapes into the past, using a drug-induced time-travel method to possess the body of a 1980s Los Angeles police detective. With the fate of the future at stake, Deth must navigate the urban grit and punk energy of 1985 L.A., racing against time to stop Whistler and his growing army of mind-controlled killers. Expect a blend of hardboiled noir, cyberpunk style, and inventive time-travel mechanics.
