Overview

Insurance investigator Jeff Keenan travels to the south of France to look into the suspicious car-crash death of film star Clark Denver. As he digs deeper, Keenan discovers that Denver and other recent victims had all been patients at a private psychiatric clinic specializing in electronic dream therapy. The enigmatic Verna Berteaux links the victims, and the clinic’s owner, Zakon, is about to marry Keenan’s former sweetheart Ruth. What starts as a routine insurance inquiry quickly becomes something much stranger, as Keenan suspects that the therapy’s effects—and the deaths—are part of a more sinister plot. Set against the glamorous yet shadowy backdrop of the Riviera, Escapement blends crime, mystery, and speculative science.
