Programmer's Pick

If your fantasy cravings run more oiled-up than highbrow, The Barbarians delivers the goods: twin strongmen, a campy villain, and enough bare-chested brawls to stock a sword-and-sorcery gym. Ruggero Deodato swaps cannibals for glistening pecs, and the result is gloriously over-the-top.

Overview

Set in a heroic fantasy world, The Barbarians follows the Ragnicks, a peaceful tribe of traveling entertainers whose existence is shattered by the malevolent warlord Kadar. When their queen, Canary, is taken hostage in Kadar’s pursuit of a magic ruby, twin brothers Kutchek and Gore are captured and forced into slavery. As the years pass, the brothers grow into formidable warriors, their strength matched only by their loyalty. Eventually, they are pitted against one another in a deadly arena, but fate—and kinship—set them on a quest to reclaim the tribe’s lucky jewel and free their queen. Expect brawny action, a dash of camp, and a fantasy world where muscle and magic collide.
