Programmer's Pick

When prison drama meets disaster spectacle, you get a cold-blooded Alaskan rollercoaster engineered by Andrei Konchalovsky. With Jon Voight and Eric Roberts clinging to both sanity and steel, this is action with grit, sweat, and a distinct chill.

Overview

Oscar "Manny" Manheim, a notorious bank robber revered by his fellow inmates, is released from solitary confinement in Alaska's Stonehaven Maximum Security Prison after three years. Driven by determination and urgency after being attacked, Manny enlists the help of the younger Buck McGeehy to execute a daring midwinter escape. Their flight leads them through a frigid sewer tunnel to a switchyard, where they disguise themselves in railroad gear and board what they believe is their ticket to freedom. When the train's engineer suffers a fatal heart attack, the convicts—and an unexpected railway worker—find themselves racing across the frozen Alaskan landscape aboard a train that can't be stopped.
