Programmer's Pick

A haunted asylum, a marriage on the rocks, and a million-dollar dare—this remake doesn’t just rattle chains, it swings for the fences with gothic setpieces and a body count to match. If you like your horror with a side of sardonic wit and a heap of practical gore, check in for the night—if you dare.

Overview

In 1931, a violent revolt by patients at the Vannacutt Psychiatric Institute for the Criminally Insane leaves the building engulfed in flames, with nearly everyone inside perishing. Decades later, amusement park mogul Steven Price, at the urging of his dissatisfied wife Evelyn, hosts her birthday party in the now-infamous and long-abandoned hospital. The new owner, Watson Pritchett, is convinced the building is inherently evil, having grown up in its shadow. A select group of guests, each with mysterious reasons for attending, is lured to the party, where they are challenged to spend the night for a million-dollar reward. But as night falls, the house's grim history begins to assert itself, and no one is sure who—or what—locked them inside.
