Quick Answer

What is Liquid Assets about?

Liquid Assets is a 1982 American comedy film directed by Roberta Findlay about a wealthy man who funds a doomed play as a tax write-off, only to get tangled with eccentric showbiz hopefuls.

Programmer's Pick

Only Roberta Findlay could turn tax evasion into a bawdy backstage circus. Between Broadway egos, hopeful starlets, and a director who’s more hands-on than most, the only thing flopping here is the play itself—and that’s just what the accountant ordered.

Overview

Mr. Cashbox, a man suffering from the burden of too much money, seeks to dodge a hefty tax bill by backing the world’s worst play, ‘Piece & War.’ His tax lawyer assures him that the production’s inevitable flop will be the perfect write-off. Unfortunately for Cashbox, Broadway starlet Tootsie Lamarr and ambitious stable-girl Suzy have their own designs on the play’s spotlight, while egotistical director Stan Slavsky is more interested in romance than rehearsals. Directed by Roberta Findlay, 'Liquid Assets' plays out as a broad-minded comedy, blending burlesque antics and offbeat eroticism, as high finance collides with low-rent showbiz ambition.
