A seemingly friendly farmer and his sister kidnap unsuspecting travelers and bury them alive, using them to create the "special meat" they are famous for.

Quick Answer

What is Motel Hell about?

Motel Hell is a 1980 American comedy horror thriller directed by Kevin Connor about a rural farmer and his sister who trap unsuspecting travelers and turn them into smoked meat for their famous motel business.

Programmer's Pick

Only in the world of 'Motel Hell' could pig masks, meat pies, and a secret garden full of buried motorists feel right at home. This is hixploitation horror with a twinkle in its eye, where the menu is as questionable as the morals—and the chainsaw fight is just dessert.

Overview

Farmer Vincent Smith and his sister Ida seem like pillars of rural hospitality, running the quaint Motel Hello while serving up their legendary smoked meats. But beneath the folksy charm and neon sign is a gruesome business model: Vincent and Ida trap travelers using roadside tricks, then bury their victims up to the neck in a secret 'garden' until they’re ready for the smoker. With the help of his loyal but twisted sister, Vincent treats his human livestock like animals, prepping them for a fate worse than any roadside diner special. Things take a turn when a would-be victim, Terry, is spared and taken in, catching the attention of both Vincent and his naive younger brother, Sheriff Bruce. 'Motel Hell' serves up a darkly comic blend of horror, rural satire, and absurdity.
