Programmer's Pick

This isn't your average period piece—it's a saucy Australian farce where seducers, convicts, and a shipwrecked couple collide. Eliza Fraser holds her own amidst marital misadventures and island peril, never missing a chance to rewrite her own legend.

Overview

The Adventures of Eliza Fraser sails into bawdy historical farce as Eliza and her much older husband, Captain James Fraser, depart Sydney in the 1830s aboard the Stirling Castle. The notorious Captain Rory McBryde stirs up trouble with attempts to seduce Eliza, while a stop at Moreton Bay's penal colony introduces further entanglements—including an escaped convict who finds refuge in Eliza's quarters. After an unexpected and risqué twist, the Frasers and their crew are shipwrecked on an island near Australia. Forced to live among the indigenous Aboriginal people, Eliza and her companions must navigate new dangers, shifting alliances, and the wilds of colonial Australia—all while the film maintains a playful, irreverent tone.
