Programmer's Pick

‘Rebel Rousers’ puts the ‘biker’ in bikersploitation, serving up a grimy slice of small-town chaos where the law looks the other way. Come for the outlaw gang antics, stay for the early roles from Nicholson, Dern, and Ladd.

Overview

Paul Collier is desperate to find Karen, his pregnant girlfriend, who has fled rather than marry him. Their tense reunion is interrupted by the arrival of the Rebel Rousers, a small-time biker gang led by J.J. Weston, who shares a past with Paul. Instead of reminiscing, J.J. and his gang stir up trouble in a local diner, leading the sheriff to drive them out of town. Things turn violent when the gang captures Paul and Karen, beating Paul and threatening Karen, while J.J. attempts to intervene. With the town’s authorities unwilling to help, the couple’s fate hangs in the balance as lawlessness takes over. The film sets a gritty, tense tone as it explores themes of rebellion, violence, and the failures of small-town justice.
