Quick Answer

What is Tentacles about?

Tentacles is a 1977 Italian-American horror-thriller directed by Ovidio G. Assonitis about a mutated giant octopus attacking a seaside community after underwater drilling disturbs its habitat.

Programmer's Pick

Tentacles rides the wave of creature features with a distinctly Mediterranean flavor and a cast stacked with Oscar winners and cult favorites. Come for the mutated mollusk, stay for the killer whale trainer and the not-so-subtle shade thrown at corporate polluters.

Overview

Something deadly is haunting the waters of Solana Beach, a bustling California resort town, as victims are found stripped to the bone with no clear culprit in sight. Sheriff Robards is stumped, but dogged reporter Ned Turner suspects the Trojan company's underwater tunnel project and its mysterious ultrasonic drilling. As the body count rises and company owner Mr. Whitehead grows defensive, the mystery deepens. Marine expert Will Gleason is drawn in after his own divers fall prey to the unseen menace, leading him to suspect that the environmental havoc caused by the tunnel construction may have unleashed a monstrous force from the deep. This creature feature blends horror, science fiction, and a splash of dark comedy as investigators face off against a threat no one expected.
