Programmer's Pick

Only Tony Rome could turn a toe-tag case into a cocktail of Miami glitz and underworld grit. Sinatra’s charm makes diving for corpses look like just another day on the job, especially when cement shoes and swinging go-go joints are standard perks.

Overview

During a dive off the coast of Miami, private detective Tony Rome stumbles upon the lifeless body of a woman submerged with her feet encased in cement. Reporting the grisly find to Lieutenant Dave Santini, Rome thinks the case is closed until Waldo Gronsky, a man fresh out of prison, hires him to find a missing woman identified as Sondra Lomax—the same person who once accused Gronsky of a crime. With little to go on and only a pawned watch for payment, Rome follows a trail through Miami’s underbelly, encountering vibrant personalities and simmering tensions. As he navigates nightclubs, colorful suspects, and obstructive figures, he finds that the deeper he digs, the more tangled and perilous the mystery becomes.
