Overview

In a world where justice wears a cape and crime comes in delightfully odd forms, Batwoman leads her squad of Batgirls against her nemesis, the masked Rat Fink. Corporate intrigue bubbles as the Ayjax Development Corporation creates the Atomic Hearing Aid, a device powered by plutonium that can eavesdrop on anyone, anywhere. The government wants it destroyed due to its dangerous instability, but company brass refuse, drawing the attention of Rat Fink, who will stop at nothing to possess the gadget. As Batwoman and her Batgirls boogie and battle through a series of madcap obstacles, the stakes are as high as the hairdos in this campy collision of superheroes, science, and swinging sixties style.

Why This Matters

This film is notable as the first English-language motion picture to feature a female superhero, and, aside from made-for-television films, it remained unique in this regard until Supergirl's release 18 years later. Its production was a direct response to the popularity of the Batman television series and resulted in a copyright lawsuit.
