Programmer's Pick

If your idea of a good time involves a thought-photographing machine, a string of stylish murders, and Poliziottesco ineptitude, this slice of euro-sleaze obliges. Between the eccentric suspects, scandalous villa antics, and showers of giallo blood, Helia Colombo’s direction keeps the bodies and suspects piling up.

Overview

When reporter Giorgio D’Amato arrives at a remote villa in search of his friend Enrichetta, he finds only a corpse and a puzzle. Enrichetta, a model, is discovered stabbed to death with scissors, her presence explained by the unnerving inventor Edmondo Parisi, who claims to have built a device that photographs people’s thoughts. The villa’s other residents—Parisi’s troubled wife Eleonora, an ever-present butler, and uninhibited housekeeper Lucia—offer little comfort as a local wave of violent murders targeting young women intensifies. With even the police appearing inept, Giorgio and young Sara, Parisi’s niece, begin their own investigation amid rising paranoia and mounting danger. The atmosphere is thick with suspicion, sleaze, and eccentricity, laying the groundwork for a giallo tinged with both crime and science fiction intrigue.
