Proof that even a 67-minute nudie cutie can overstay its welcome.

Programmer's Pick

Sextet delivers exactly what it promises: a parade of daydream sequences starring a hopeful harem-owner and a supporting cast of unclothed beauties. While it drags even at under 70 minutes, completists and Linda Lovelace spotters may find something to ogle amid the nudie nostalgia.

Quick Answer
What is Sextet about?

Sextet is a 1964 American comedy film directed by Bud Irwin about a man who constantly fantasizes about being surrounded by beautiful, naked women.

Synopsis

Pauly Dash plays a man who is constantly daydreaming about being surrounded by beautiful women who are of course naked.

Whenever I'm watching "nudie" pictures like SEXTET, I'm always torn about how I should be judging them. On one hand, they are poorly made, poorly paced and even with a length under a hour they're hard to get through. At the same time movies like these were made just so men could see women naked. Do you punish the film for being poorly made or praise it for at least giving the viewer what they paid for?

I'm not sure which is the right way but SEXTET was pretty darn boring and rather hard to make it through. The film is just over fifty-minutes and yet it constantly drags to the point where you really don't care if you see anymore naked ladies. The opening daydream was decent but from there we just get a bunch of boring scenes that just don't add up to much.

Dash isn't much of a comedian either as his idea of comedy is just making strange faces. The added narration doesn't help matters and in the end there's really nothing here but the ladies.

Why Cult

Nudie-Cutie Nostalgia

Made in 1964, Sextet is a prime specimen of mid-century American nudie cinema, all teasing, no pretense.

Linda Lovelace Spotting

Linda Lovelace appears uncredited as a girl at a party, a rare early-career cameo before her notorious fame.

Fantasy Harem Premise

The plot is simple: a man's wish-fulfillment daydreams put him at the center of a personal harem, all in the name of comedy.
