Programmer's Pick

Richard Lester’s brisk, cheeky take on London’s swinging scene is as much about male confusion as it is about conquest. With surreal touches, a Greek chorus of bystanders, and a parade of mod-era quirks, this isn’t just a sex comedy—it’s a clever, sideways look at a generation trying to find its groove.

Overview

Set in 1960s London, The Knack... and How to Get It follows Colin, a nervous schoolteacher on the outside looking in at the era’s sexual revolution. Desperate to break out of his shell, he seeks guidance from his cocky roommate Tolen, self-proclaimed master of seduction, who offers advice that’s as unhelpful as it is chauvinistic. When another eccentric friend, Tom, moves in, their flat becomes a hub for misadventure. The arrival of Nancy, an innocent newcomer from the countryside, stirs up the delicate balance of their world, setting off a series of comic and fantastical escapades. The film blends social satire, British New Wave energy, and a madcap exploration of youthful desire and awkwardness.
