Quick Answer

What is Pendulum about?

Pendulum is a 1969 American crime thriller directed by George Schaefer about a decorated police captain who becomes the prime suspect in his wife's murder.

Programmer's Pick

Pendulum flips the script on the classic cop drama, putting George Peppard's upright police captain squarely in the crosshairs. With betrayal in the bedroom and backroom political maneuvering, it's a noir-tinged ride through suspicion and legal quicksand.

Overview

In Washington, D.C., police captain Frank Matthews is riding high on a new political appointment, but his home life is far from stable. Suspecting his wife is being unfaithful, Matthews makes a fateful decision to stay away one night. The next morning, tragedy strikes: his wife and her lover are found shot to death, and the evidence begins to point directly at Matthews himself. As his colleagues in law enforcement turn against him, Matthews finds himself the target of an investigation he once would have led. With both his career and freedom at stake, he must navigate suspicion and betrayal while a parallel story involving a freed death-row inmate weaves through the tense narrative.
