Programmer's Pick

Luigi Cozzi’s The Black Cat is a meta-horror cocktail where moviemaking literally conjures up evil—complete with a hard rock soundtrack and giallo flourishes. If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if casting your spouse in a witch role went cosmically wrong, this is your cautionary tale.

Overview

Mark Ravenna, a celebrated Italian horror director, embarks on his latest cinematic endeavor: scripting a film based on the sinister legacy of Dario Argento’s witch trilogy. Central to his story is Levana, the most powerful and ancient of witches, whose legend warns of madness and destruction. Ignoring dire warnings, Mark casts his wife Anne as the lead, unwittingly setting in motion a series of supernatural events. As Anne delves into the script, she becomes haunted by Levana herself, who threatens her with unspeakable torment if she continues. The line between fiction and reality blurs, as the film’s production seems to awaken forces best left undisturbed, putting everyone involved at risk.
