Quick Answer

What is The War of the Gargantuas about?

The War of the Gargantuas is a 1966 Japanese action, horror, and science fiction film directed by Ishirō Honda about two giant humanoid monsters—one violent, one gentle—whose conflict threatens Japan.

Programmer's Pick

Kaiju cinema rarely gets stranger than this: a cannibalistic green giant rampaging at sea, a gentle twin in the mountains, and just enough mad science to keep the military guessing. Only Ishirō Honda could pit sibling monsters against each other and make us question which is the greater threat.

Overview

On a stormy night at sea, a fishing boat is attacked by a giant octopus, only for the creature to be vanquished by an even stranger menace: a massive, green-haired humanoid. When the monster then turns on the boat, only one survivor remains to tell the tale, claiming that 'Frankenstein' was responsible for the carnage. The incident draws the attention of Dr. Paul Stewart and his assistant, Akemi Togawa, who once studied a gentle Frankenstein creature years before. As speculation runs wild, the pair must determine whether their former subject could be responsible for this new wave of monstrous attacks—or if something far more sinister is at play.
