Programmer's Pick

Vietnam trauma meets hick-town hostility in this slice of hixploitation, where muscle cars and small-town grudges barrel through the Southern countryside. Dirk Benedict gets to channel Rambo before Rambo was cool, and Linda Blair finds herself on the other side of American violence.

Overview

Ruckus centers on Kyle Hanson, a Vietnam War veteran who struggles to reintegrate into society and drifts through the American South. When he stops for a meal in a small town, he quickly becomes the target of harassment from local bullies, leading to a physical altercation and his flight from both the townsfolk and the law. Using his special forces training, Kyle becomes the focus of a tense manhunt, evading deputies while taking refuge in the barn of Jenny Bellows—a young mother whose husband is missing in action from the same war. The film builds its tension in the rural landscape, setting up a clash between a traumatized outsider and a town eager to expel him.
