An ill-mannered bandit and a gun-hungry girl stir up outlaw chaos across the Wild West.

SONNY AND JED

Three Women of the Old West...Wild...Raw...Vicious. They're the reason they called the West wild!

1972 · 1h 37m · R · Western · IMDB TMDB

Jed (Tomas Milian) is an unlikely hero in this Italian western. As thoroughly unlikeable a robber as ever walked the West, he nonetheless robs from the rich and gives to the poor. Not only is he a murderous, ill-tempered sort, he is bad-mannered, too. When Sonny (Susan George) decides he should be her man and teach her how to be a proper outlaw, sparks fly.

Not all outlaws wear black hats—some prefer a bad attitude and a piglet.

Programmer's Pick

Sergio Corbucci ditches the stoic cowboy for a rude, scruffy antihero in Tomas Milian’s Jed, who’s so disagreeable he makes most villains blush. Pair him with Susan George’s Sonny, a would-be outlaw with more ambition than scruples, and you get a Western that’s equal parts grit and mischief. Who needs a white hat when you can have a piglet and a coffin getaway?

Quick Answer
What is Sonny and Jed about?

Sonny and Jed is a 1972 Spain-Italy-Germany Western film directed by Sergio Corbucci about a surly bandit who, with the help of an ambitious young woman, takes on the outlaw life and the law.

Synopsis

Tomas Milian plays Jed, a bandit who rides into town one day to trade a piglet for a cow. But he spots an expensive cigar on the ground outside the barn, a tip-off that an ambush might be waiting. Sure enough, a longtime nemesis named Franciscus is about to spring a trap. Jed flees and gets a helping hand from a young girl named Sonny. She hides him in a coffin in the back of her buckboard and smuggles him out of town. But this isn’t any ordinary young woman. Sonny wants $100 for her trouble.

She plans to buy a gun and become an outlaw just like Jed. In fact, she’d love to tag along with him for a while to learn the trade. He takes her up on her offer, having her play dead to stop a stage they intend to rob. But when she can’t stand the idea of shooting the passengers, Jed abandons her. Sonny’s facing a long stint in prison when she lands in the hands of Franciscus, partly because she refuses to tell him where to find Jed. Jed comes to the rescue of course, and the two begin a successful string of holdups. Along the way, Sonny falls for the rascal. But Franciscus is still on their trail.
