Overview

Elliot Freeman, haunted by a family history of mental illness and the shadow of his father's suspicious death, lives in isolation at his inherited manor in a small New England town. Once a war veteran, now a portrait artist, Elliot struggles with the stigma of being labeled a pariah by his community. His solitary routine is disrupted when he becomes entangled with Dolores Martello, a model with a complicated romantic past, and the arrival of his sister Lynn, who is about to start college nearby. As tensions simmer between townsfolk and family, the threat of an unknown axe murderer looms, casting suspicion and fear over everyone Elliot encounters.
