Quick Answer

What is The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue about?

The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue is a 1974 Italian-Spanish horror and science fiction film directed by Jorge Grau about corpses reanimated by experimental radiation in the English countryside.

Programmer's Pick

When pest control goes rogue, you get more than bugs crawling out of the fields. Jorge Grau’s undead opus pairs 1970s anti-technology paranoia with flesh-tearing mayhem—Manchester has never looked so unwelcoming.

Overview

Antique shop owner George's trip to the Lake District takes a bizarre turn when his motorcycle is damaged by Edna at a petrol station. Forced into an uneasy partnership, the two travel together into the English countryside, each with their own destination in mind. Their detour to Southgate to check on Edna's troubled sister sends them down a dead-end road near a river, where George stumbles upon government officials using an experimental machine meant to eradicate pests with ultrasonic radiation. As night falls and strange occurrences start to unfold, George and Edna find themselves caught in an escalating nightmare, hinting at dangers far beyond mechanical mishaps or family drama. This is a film that weaves rural unease with a creeping sense of the unnatural, setting the stage for a collision between science and the dead.
