SPACE THING

Visit the planet of the rapes!

1968 · 1h 9m · NR · Comedy / Science Fiction · IMDB TMDB

It’s Buck Rogers for adults as Col. James Granilla, an alien in human disguise, visits the flying saucer of Captain Mother, and her all-girl crew in the year 2060. But because Granilla is a "Planetarian" and all the lovely space nymphs are "Terranians," he seeks to learn all about their "intimate ways."

Quick Answer

What is Space Thing about?

Space Thing is a 1968 American science fiction comedy directed by Byron Mabe and David F. Friedman about an alien in disguise infiltrating an all-female spaceship crew to protect his planet, leading to a surreal, erotic dream adventure.

Programmer's Pick

If Buck Rogers had been produced by a drive-in theater’s resident pranksters, Space Thing would be the result. This is pure sexploitation in orbit—complete with topless romps, space lesbians, and the kind of special effects that make cardboard look high-end.

Overview

Space Thing launches viewers into a farcical, erotic sci-fi dreamscape where Col. James Granilla, an alien disguised as a human, infiltrates the flying saucer of Captain Mother and her all-female crew in the year 2060. The film is framed as the fevered dream of a man seduced by his wife after a night of reading pulp science fiction magazines. Once asleep, he imagines himself on a mission to prevent the Terranian crew from attacking his own planet. The ship’s captain and her crew are more interested in seduction than space combat, leading to a parade of risqué encounters, playful role reversals, and absurdist parody. Expect softcore antics, low-budget charm, and tongue-in-cheek space opera, as the boundaries between genres (and uniforms) are gleefully crossed.
