Overview

Halloween (2007) dives into the troubled childhood of Michael Myers, a ten-year-old in Haddonfield, Illinois, whose violent tendencies culminate in the murder of his family—save for his infant sister. Institutionalized under Dr. Samuel Loomis’s care, Michael at first seems to respond, but soon withdraws into silence and obsession with masks. As years pass, the film traces the chilling transformation of Michael from disturbed child to a silent, menacing adult. When Michael escapes from Smith’s Grove Sanitarium after seventeen years, he heads straight back to Haddonfield, searching for the one family member he spared. Along the way, anyone who crosses his path faces deadly consequences. Rob Zombie’s take is both an origin story and a relentless slasher, heavy on psychological unease and brutal violence.
